Next, create a new transparent layer over the sketch (name it "sketch"). Then using a small brush, draw the sketch again, but this time make it more accurate.

Make a new document with the dimensions of 1024px by 768px. Fill the background with (#8CC2FF) color. Then add a gradient from the bottom to the middle with the color #CFECFE, and set the gradient 100% to transparent. This will be our sky, of course you can choose any other light blue color for the sky, or even plan a night scene, but then remember there would be different lighting and contrasting dark colors.

Open up a new white document Ctrl + N at the size of 600 pixels by 1129 pixels. We'll start by making the center of the flower and the pollen. Then we will make the petals. Make a circle and fill it with #fcee10. To make the circle use the Rectangle Tool (U).
Now we'll need to have some guides to make sure that everything in our document will be in the right place. And in order to put the guides in the correct place, we'll make some fixed sized selections. Get the Rectangular Marque Tool, set style to Fixed Size and set Width and Height to 140 pixels. Click on the canvas, then while holding the left mouse button place the selection to the top left corner. Drag one horizontal and one vertical guide and snap them to the edges of the selection.
Create a New Document 800 pixels wide by 1100 pixels high at a resolution of 300 pixels/inch. Drag a vertical Guide to somewhere near the middle of the document. Get out the Pen Tool (P) and in the Paths mode draw a path, as in the image below. This is going to be one half of our glass.
Create a new layer and name it "Apple." Grab the Elliptical Marquee Tool, make a selection as in the below image. Next, grab the Gradient Tool, then pick Foreground to Background and set Style to Radial. Make your Foreground Color #88cc33 and Background Color #005522. Fill the selection as shown.
Next using the same tool you need to hold down the Alt button before you start making a shape. This will extract from the first shape you made. Also, use the rulers and grid to help set the shape of the phone. When you're done name the shape "Phone shape 1."
Grab the Rectangular Marquee Tool, set the Style to Fixed Size, set the Width to 530 pixels, and set the Height to 260 pixels. Make a selection as in the below image. Lastly, drag and snap horizontal and vertical Guides around the selection.
Before we start we need to find our inspiration. For this tutorial, I used this photograph I found at Stockvault. After downloading the image, open it in Photoshop.
Sketching is an excellent way to quickly explore concepts. You can sketch for one or two hours and work out multiple possible solutions to the design problem at hand. This is an essential step in the design process. It will save you time to work through concepts on paper before going to the computer. While it is possible to build sketches on the computer, it's not as fast as sketching multiple concepts on paper.
